TJEA NEWS
Wednesday, November 22, 2017 Dear Jazz Friends and Colleagues, As we get ready for the holiday to give thanks, I wanted to wish everyone the best, as we spend time with our families and special people. It is a pleasure to work with professionals that give not only to their programs but give extra to ensure the quality of our musicians across the state. I know that our host site members did a tremendous amount of work to reserve their buildings, provide AC/heat, contact judges and boosters, check equipment, make coffee, print judge sheets, and secure monitors/tabulators to make sure that all was ready for the auditions. A special thanks to Frank Coachman, TMEA Deputy Director, and our tabulators who communicated and made sure this new site method was audited and met our TMEA state requirements. Also, thanks to Harlingen H.S., South Texas, for working both Saturday and Sunday. We also had judges and tabulators who answered the call and traveled across Texas to support their colleagues and our young jazz musicians. I was proud to have strategically placed sites in or near big cities at high schools and colleges to truly get a cross section of the state. (i.e. Texas State, Tarleton State, Brazosport College, Plano Senior High, Del Valle H.S.-El Paso, and Harlingen H.S. in the Valley). Orchestra also followed this new process, auditioning at different sites as well. This provides a greater opportunity for those who have wanted to participate but could not give up the time to travel to the one-site location. Click here if you would like to see the talented people who were a part of this year’s TMEA State Jazz Panels. (Be thinking about next year and I’ll be reaching out to everyone around our TBA convention in July) • We will be looking for Panel Chairs and Sites but will also collect names to help our Panel Chairs if they need people in their area to fill a 5-judge panel. • No hotel or flights will be covered due to our new satellite system. • What panel would you feel comfortable judging? My contact information is listed below. Thanks again for your service to TMEA and our amazing jazz students across the state. I hope to work with you again next year. Sincerely, Michael Cruz T.M.E.A.
