PRESIDENT'S COMMENTS
| Hello Members of Texas Jazz Educators Association. I am really looking forward to working with each member and my fellow officers and board of directors over the next couple of years. I believe that TJEA is growing stronger because of the strength of our membership and their love for Jazz Education in Texas. TJEA has a lot to offer its members with the offering of Jazz Grants for elementary, middle and high school programs. These $250 grants are offered to 10 programs for clinicians, educational material, or other program needs. The Jazz Journal that was published and edited by Richard Birk in January of 2010 contained a wealth of excellent articles that can help your students. The presentation of a Jazz Clinician by TJEA at the TMEA Convention on a yearly base gives us a strong connection with that large educational organization. The Directors Symposium will continue to be organized and present educational material that is useful for directors. The officers and board are thinking of expanding the symposium to include students at the future event. The newsletter edited by John Goode allows you to share what is going on with your jazz program. The TJEA Web Site is now being hosted by TMEA and everyone should continue to visit there for Jazz related information. Thanks to Cathy Benford (our webmaster), and Frank Coachman and Andrew Denman from TMEA for their continued work on the site. • Midi & mp3 files of TMEA All State Jazz Audition Music • Listings of Jazz Festivals being hosted in the state • Summer Jazz Camp listings • Awards of TJEA Grant Recipients • Clinicians • Minutes, Reports & Links • Constitution, By Laws and Ethics • Membership Roster Please try to attend our meetings that are held at both the TMEA and TBA Conventions. Also stop by the TJEA Booth at the conventions to say Hi and introduce yourself. The Jazz Education in Texas is only as strong as its members and their input so please feel free to email me anytime with any suggestions you have. Keep it Swingin’ Sparky Koerner, president skoerner@com.edu |
